How did you discover your passion for tattooing, and what inspired you to make it your career?
From a kid's age, tattoos for me were something mystical and interesting; in the 1990s in Russia, we knew only the criminal tattoo movement in our society. But I knew that something should be under it. At the start of 2002, I started to learn more from the books and TV shows, and it opened for me a new world, and those days I understood that I wanted to be a tattoo artist because Art in total was a big part of my life.
How would you define your tattooing style, and what makes it unique?
Actually, I am not a big fan of close art in a specific “box style.” . I am flexible with different styles, but for nowadays, my favorites are graphic surrealistic fine line style with many details. It opens for me more art freedom when I create a design. I guess all artists are unique; you are never the same as another person. Just be creative in your heart and mind.
Which artists or styles have influenced your work the most?
I am inspired by many talented artists with different styles, and I take from each artist something interesting for me. And still nowadays I keep going to develop my style and technique.
How do you handle the emotional connection between a client and their tattoo?
Actually, I am an empathic person, and for me even a small tattoo is important because I feel almost the same as the client. Sometimes it’s a bit difficult and complicated, but at the same time so emotional in a good way.
What is your process for designing a custom tattoo for a client?
First, I just ask the clients what they like, just in words. After asking the clients to find some photo references on Pinterest (the easiest way for the client), and after I have all the info, make a special custom design in my style.
What’s your take on how the art of tattooing has evolved recently?
The tattoo industry for the last 5 years has taken a huge step from quality of tattoos to tattoo supply in general.
What are your goals or future projects as a tattoo artist?
My goal in general is to keep going emotionally as a painting artist and tattoo artist. Art is totally the movement
that has never stopped developing and brings to people the most important stuff as “emotions.” We have to enjoy what we do now and be at the moment.
